Name: Claire Brandrick
Age or Running Category: 52 years
How long have you been running? 14 years
Why do you run? To keep fit and healthy.  I enjoy doing some form of exercise on a regular basis, it makes me feel good about myself.
Describe your favourite run: I just absolutely love our casual Sunday morning runs from Isabelle’s back garden.  We go up onto the top of the Mendips with the reservoir and Cheddar behind us,  Nyland hill below and the Draycott Sleights in front of us.  It is so uplifting and thrilling to be “pottering” in the fresh air with those beautiful views.
Do you take part in races? If so what distance/terrain? I don’t race often as I get very nervous.  I’m so relieved when I run over the finish line and that’s not just because I’m exhausted. I tend to run 10K or ½ marathons and I don’t mind road or off road races.
What is your greatest running achievement? Training for a race.  Particularly a ½ marathon because I find it hard to keep focused on the training schedule when my family life is demanding other requirements from me.
How long have you been a member of Cheddar Running Club? 14 years
Why did you join Cheddar Running Club?  I have always enjoyed doing some form of exercise.  The Cheddar Leisure Centre didn’t have much to offer 14 years ago so I tried jogging by myself but I gave up when the weather turned wet, windy and cold.  Joining the club keeps me motivated.
How has Cheddar Running Club helped you and your running? When I first joined the club I used to hyperventilate jogging up a slight incline in a road.  But now I just think, “what the heck!  I’ll reach the top eventually.”  I now really enjoy hills and off road.
What would you say to anyone thinking of joining the club? Come along and try our sessions!  14 years ago I was the slowest runner in the club.  So if I can improve there’s hope for anyone else.
