Greg P reports….
First my excuses for a time of 1:54:02 for a half marathon. It was hilly, okay? And I pulled a calf muscle in the first two or three miles and it hurt and anyway it was 13.5 miles, not 13.1. Oh, and as there were several fields of corn to run around with only enough room for one between the corn and the hedge it got a bit congested with four hundred odd (meaning ‘and something’, not ‘weird’, but they might have been weird!) people trying to squeeze through, what with that and the styles! So that’s why I was a bit slow, not cos I was rubbish!
The run was organised by White Star Running (same as for the away trip ‘East Farm Frolic’) and was over the weekend of the 16th July with the half marathon on the Saturday and full marathon on the Sunday. The start and finish was staged at East Farm at Blandford Forum and the in-between bit was through the beautiful Dorset countryside. There was camping available with fun and frolics on the Saturday evening except I didn’t stay cos I am short of a tent and a sleeping bag. Shut up, I’m not boring!!
The run itself was very nice; lots of rolling hills that were not too tough and plenty of woodland tracks that provided some nice refreshing shade on a hot day. The run in to the finish was lined either side with hay bales and people sat on top of them, all clapping and making friendly noises. Once over the finish line we were presented with the customary goody bag and the chunkiest medal I have ever seen. I nearly toppled over when the lady hung it round my neck!!!
