Andy Humphries at the start of Isle of Wight challenge 2014

Name: Andy Humphries
Age or Running Category: 51
How long have you been running? 25 years
Why do you run? I was a fatty when I grew up and although I love beer and all manner of food, I don’t want to get that way again. I still get a huge amount of satisfaction out of every run I do.
Describe your favourite run: The longer the better and a mix of terrain. My legs won’t go quickly but seem to keep going!
Do you take part in races? If so what distance/terrain? Yes. Mostly marathons and halfs now. Going back a few years I have done a few Ultramarathons – mostly off road, some on sand (eg M de Sable) and one at altitude. Completing these has been some of the most amazing experiences of my life.
What is your greatest running achievement? Difficult one! Probably coming 7th (1st European) in 37 hours in the Badwater ultra-marathon – 135 miles continuous in the Nevada desert with temperatures upto 115 degrees fahrenheit. Sadly that was 14 years ago.
How long have you been a member of Cheddar Running Club? 3 months
Why did you join Cheddar Running Club?  I have got an awful lot slower over the last few years and would like to get some speed back! I have always run on my own and just felt I was becoming a sad old billy no mates.
How has Cheddar Running Club helped you and your running? In the last 3 months, I have lost nearly 1 ½ stone and running 1/2minute mile quicker.

More importantly, I have been made so welcome at CRC. I have a new bunch of friends and that has rejuvenated my running.

What would you say to anyone thinking of joining the club? Whether you want to race or run socially, CRC is the place to be. You’ll instantly be amongst friends.
