A look back to a race from summer 2013, which saw an excellent turnout from CRC members for a challenging off-road course.

The steep ascent to the start of the race had most of the participants wondering what they had let themselves in for. The race set off from Strawberry fields at the top of Cheddar Gorge and took in some varied terrain and lovely views by Black Rock and Velvet Bottom. At the 8K point runners had to take on what the organiser described as “Hell Steps- a cheeky little flight of steps with a surprise mid way up”. This being our stomping ground, we knew the surprise mid way up was…another set of steps! The last kilometre was a steep descent over rocky terrain, which saw Cath Frith have an unplanned interaction with a tree (you can see her proudly showing off her bruised knee in the picture below!).

CRC gazelle Greg Brock was 2nd man home in a tremendous time of 41.22, while Jenny McNamara was 8th lady in 52.58. Emma Zarrabi was next CRC member home (55.22), followed by her OH Jason Woodcock (59.24; beaten by your wife-to-be again!) and Cath Frith (1.04.04). We also made it into the Cheddar Valley Gazette!  http://www.cheddarvalleygazette.co.uk/Greg-Brock-second-Cheddar-Gorge-10k/story-19056664-detail/story.html

All in a day’s work for CRC!
