Four Cheddar runners took on Clevedon Athletic Club’s notoriously fast and furious 10K race on Tuesday 10th June. The course is exceptionally flat and fast, taking in some lovely quiet lanes around Kenn Moor, and starting and finishing by Mary Elton primary school. Most didn’t take time to admire the views, however, and concentrated on completing the course as quickly as they could!
This popular race is mostly run by PB-chasing club runners, with coach loads coming from as far afield as Plymouth and Devon. Cheddar Runners were no exception in the PB-chasing stakes!
CRC coach Shane Roach was on fine form, finishing first for Cheddar in 37.56 and 14th in his category. Jenny McNamara was a couple of minutes behind, pulling out all the stops to achieve a stonking PB of 40.08 (4th in category). Her efforts were rewarded with an envelope containing enough money to buy a few celebratory G&Ts. The unstoppable Jim Scott (43. 34; 20th in category) finished just ahead of teammate Jason Woodcock, who also achieved a big PB (43.37; 50th in category) less than 2 weeks after his 20 mile Mercury Mendip Challenge.
The chip timing meant runners were rewarded with a sneak peek of their performance, though Jenny couldn’t quite believe her time and waited for the finalised results to be published on the website two days later before celebrating properly!
The results are testament to the effectiveness of the training at CRC- thanks Shane! We may complain at the time but the results we are achieving speak for themselves!
Very well done everyone!
