Cheddar Running Club’s Jenny McNamara returned to her home county to make a successful
marathon debut on Sunday.

McNamara was one of 7,000 runners for the Plusnet Jane Tomlinson’s Yorkshire Marathon, which started off at the University’s Heslington campus. Despite heavy fog threatening to delay the start, the race set off at the expected time on a flat course taking in sights such as famous York Minster and the surrounding picturesque country lanes on which the locals were out in force to cheer on an international field. McNamara finished in eighth place and was seventh in her category. Her time of 3:08.28 qualified McNamara, who trains under the guidance of coach Shane Roach, for a championship place at the 2015 London Marathon.
